The past few days have been realli slack days, and the weather has been pure shit, today has been another rainy rainy day, all the way till about 6-7pm, though I still think it will drizzle on until tomorrow. Not much, if any of the island has seen any sun lately and its depressing too. Most importantly, the trials are tomorrow, and with the rain and all, I dunno where to hold the trials should the rain be heavy enough that we cannot continue. But the urgency in which i need to fomr the team is very pressing, I've got less than 5 months tops, and my desire to go for a medal position remains strong. But anyways I've spent the past few days watching a DVD every night, cost about 2 bucks from the nearby store, so I guess uts alright, I will prob spend the same on some dinner outside or probably more. So let me review 2 out of the 3 DVDs i've watched.

The first is the movie "Miracle" which stars Kurt Russell. Its a movie about the American Ice Hockey Team in the 1980 olympics. The team was made up totally of college kids, and the coach refused to take any NHL stars cos as he said he didn't want the "best" players. But instead he wanted the right ones. The American team was highly inferior to the Soviets and the rest of the Eastern Bloc countries and as a result they were written off as no-hopers.

But through the combination of hard work, as well as the brilliant mind games played by coach H. Brooks, the team bonded well and managed to beat the Soviets, and continued to lift the olympic gold that year. Amazing story, and the fact that it was true made it all the more incredible. I got a lot out of the DVD, and the story itself, even went to do my own reading up on the net. I hope I can get something out of it to bring to the team this year.

2006 will be a tough year, but I am intent on making it a watershed year for VJC soccer. Someday, we're gonna run onto the pitch with the terraces fileld with supporters, as defending champions of the National Schools. Sure it may sound lofty, ambitious, unrealistic, but you speak waht you want. And then you act on it. It all starts with your belief.

The 2nd movie I watched was "The Alamo" starring Dennis Quaid and Billy Bob Thornton. Its again a story about a bunch of rag-tag texans held out agains a whole army of mexicans from a fort known as the Alamo, and how they refused to surrender even thought the odds were against them. Of course in the end they were overrun by the Mexicans but the fact that they held out so long was amazing. And their heart in facing certain death was amazing.

"Victory or death" , indeed the spirit of a true warrior.

Oh well, I gtg return the DVD now as well as go to my uncle's place to go discuss some busines stuff. Hoep to get back by 11 plus before starting preps for tomorrow's trials.

Out.
